Big Sandy Chamber Meets To Plan Spring Festival

The Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce met on Monday night to make plans for the annual Spring Festival coming up on memorial Day weekend. For the last several years the Festival has been a three day event but the Chamber has decided to make this years festival only a two-day event.

Chamber president Dennis Watson presided over the meeting with approximately 20 members in attendance. Treasurer J.C. Curry reported a bank balance of $2,541.00. There was a discussion of changing the yearly dues to businesses and individuals. It was decided to increase the dues for businesses from 30-$50.00 and individual from 10-$15.00. President Watson said he plans to apply for funds to the TRRD board. Last year the festival was given $10,000.

In a discussion concerning the schedule of events, the board approved the following: TR Crooks to play on Friday night, Parade on Sat. morning, Car Shoe Sat., Fireworks Sat. night, Music bands Sat. night, Shuttle Train Sat. all day, Petting Zoo on Sat., with other events still to be decided on.

With the Memorial Day being celebrated on Monday May 25th this year, the Big Sandy Spring Festival will be held on May 22-23rd.
